Chami and the Family

Island Lifestyle Culinary Experience

Chami, a skilled local culinary whiz from the lush hill country in Sri Lanka, was born into a family of skilled kitchen maestros (a talent that was passed through generations.

His recipes, passed down from generation, were rooted in authentic Sri Lankan flavours. However, Chami never thought his passion for cooking could transform his life and his family’s.

With the help of Authenticities’, Chami transformed his backyard into a cozy outdoor dining area and the rest is history! Chami’s home-cooked meals became an instant sensation among Authenticities’ travellers seeking genuine local cuisine. Chami expanded his menu to include cooking classes, teaching visitors the secrets of grinding spices and preparing traditional dishes from scratch. We’re proud to share Chami’s story that draws inspiration to others in the village, showing that with determination, even a humble cook can make a global impact.

Traditional Dance Master Ruwan

A glimpse into the Kandyan Artistry

A renowned Kandyan dance teacher from Kandy, Sri Lanka, grew up immersed in the beats of the traditional drums and the graceful movements of this ancient art form.

Despite his passion, Master Ruwan faced challenges as modern entertainment and technology overshadowed traditional arts. Enrollment in his small dance school dwindled, and the younger generation seemed uninterested in the labour-intensive training required to master Kandyan dance. Refusing to let this art form fade, the Dance Master reimagined his approach. With the support of Authenticities, Master Ruwan began collaborating with local villagers, offering free introductory classes to spark interest among children.

Today, Master Ruwan’s Dancing Academy has grown into a thriving institution, even offering our guests a glimpse into this ancient art form and inspiring a new generation of artists to carry the tradition forward with pride and passion.
